For a little bit of fun, I decided to make a wooden bodied hand plane. I wanted it to look cool, what is cooler than a 1957 Chevy Bel Air? The making of this hand plane was filmed for YouTube can be found here
It is made from highly River Redgum and some lighter blond coloured Myrtle.
It uses a 50mm wide x 6mm thick! blade which was supplied by HNT Gordon. The tool steel is of very good quality.
It is approximately 590mm long, so it’s quite a big hand plane suitable for straightening the edges of long boards.
